National Express Coach passengers in Coventry get free Lotto tickets
National Express coach passengers in Coventry woke up to a nice surprise today on their daily commute into work as a gang of glamorous ladies turned out to hand travellers free lottery tickets as part of the launch of the new Lotto Plus 5 ticket.
The National Lottery is currently conducting a nationwide tour ahead of the launch of the Lotto Plus 5 ticket this weekend. To raise awareness of the new lottery scheme, 250 tickets were handed out to coach passengers travelling on the number 5 service in Coventry this morning.
The new Lotto Plus 5 ticket offers players 5 chances to win. For an extra pound, the numbers chosen for the main lottery draw are entered into a prize draw to win a fixed amount of £250,000 for the next 5 days.
The National Lottery spokesperson says they hope the new ticket will create an extra 500,000 lotto winners a week. The lottery is already responsible for creating 4 million winners every week across all of its games, and it’s hoped the new Lotto Plus 5 will add to this.
Coventry commuters on the Number 5 National Express bus service had the opportunity to try out the new Lotto Plus 5 ticket for free as 250 were handed out this morning to travellers with valid bus tickets.
Police hunt school bus vandals in Coventry
The Police are hunting for a group of thugs who completely vandalised a school bus used to transport disabled children leaving it irreparable.
The American style Bluebird school bus was especially popular with the youngsters as it resembled the same buses used in US movies and TV shows. As well as transporting the disabled youngsters, the bus was also used by elderly residents in the Coventry area to transport them on days out, shopping trips, and even to funerals.
Lewis Coaches which operated the bus say the vehicle has been written off as a result of damage caused by the vandals. Eight windows and doors were smashed in during the attack, and seats onboard the vehicle were vandalised and the First Aid kits stolen causing in the region of £10,000 and £15,000 worth of damage.
The bus was targeted by what police believe was a group of vandals while it was parked on the Binley Industrial Estate. The vandals fled the scene after they were spotted by security guards patrolling the area. Beer cans and bottles were found onboard the school bus following the incident. The attack took place at approximately 10:30pm last Saturday night.
The owners of the American style school bus say the vehicle will have to be written off following the attack as the cost of repairing the bus would be too expensive.
The police are urging anyone with information regarding the attack to contact West Midland Police.
Woman calls for ban on bendy buses after accident
A 64-year-old woman from Coventry is calling for bendy buses to be banned after she was trapped in the doors of one of the vehicles and dragged for 90ft. Janet Lott is also threatening to sue National Express who run the bendy bus service in Coventry.
The pensioner suffered injuries including cuts and severe bruising after the doors closed on her as she was attempting to disembark the bus. The driver did not notice that she had been trapped in the closing doors and took off along the road with the terrified passenger still stuck in between the doors.
The grandmother described how the bus driver had apologised, saying he hadn’t seen her attempting to get off the bus. However the driver then left Ms Lott injured on the side of the road, and he drove off to continue on his route.
Ms Lott said she feared for her life as she was dragged along the busy road with her body half trapped in the doors of the vehicle and says the experience has affected her so badly that she is afraid to use the bus again.
A spokesperson for National Express says the company extends their apologies to Ms Lott and that a full investigation into the incident is underway.
The bus passenger is now calling for a ban on the controversial bendy bus and is also considering taking the transport company to court.
