Plans to turn the O2 arena into coach park for royal wedding
Transport for London has revealed plans for three major coach parking sites outside of the city centre ahead of the royal wedding scheduled for April 29th.
With a huge influx of visitors to London expected over the Bank Holiday weekend, TFL have their hands full ensuring the city’s transport system can cope with the millions of tourists who will descend upon the capital to be part of the wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey.
The O2 Arena, Wembley and Nine Elms have all been earmarked for use as giant coach parking depots over the bank holiday weekend at the end of April. TFL have arranged for the three main coach parks to be outside of the centre of the city, with scheduled drop offs and collections in place for coaches to transport passengers into Central London.
Millions of people are expected to line the streets along the planned wedding procession route which will run from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey, taking in The Mall, Horse Guards Road, Whitehall and Parliament Square.
In order to minimise the chance of transport problems on the big day, TFL are planning to cancel any planned engineering work for the last weekend of April to ensure that all tubes, trains and buses are running normal services. However the exception will be the streets along which the wedding procession is due to travel as these roads will be cordoned off ahead of the royal wedding.
